Seasoned SBIR/STTR competitors sometime refer to Phase I as an opportunity to "get their foot in the door" at a particular agency or component. The point is that Phase I is only the start of what hopefully will become a long and profitable relationship between the SBIR/STTR company and the agency.
Presented by Greenwood Consulting Group, the purpose of this workshop is to help small and start up companies make a successful transition from Phase I to the Phase II project where there is more time and money to conduct extensive research and take the project an important step closer to commercialization. While primarily intended for Phase I SBIR/STTR recipients, the workshop also is suitable for service providers who want to help their clients transition from Phase I to Phase II, and for anyone who wants a better understanding of how Phase II fits into the SBIR/STTR process. The workshop begins with a brief discussion of the major differences between Phase I and Phase II. It progresses to a discussion of how Phase II proposals and projects vary dramatically among the various SBIR/STTR agencies. Significant attention paid to the Phase II proposal preparation process, with recommendations for proposal strategy and text drafting. The workshop includes a session on commercialization of SBIR/STTR technologies, complete with samples of how six successful SBIR/STTR companies have done it. The workshop concludes with a brief discussion of the Phase II cost proposal and related budget issues.
